MP Greg Barker visits See Haven Dementia Club
In the week when Prime Minister, David Cameron pledged extra funding to accelerate progress in dementia research in the UK, Bexhill MP, Greg Barker,was out locally doing his bit to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by those affected by dementia and highlight the valuable work of one local charity helping those with early onset dementia.
Tea and a chat at See Haven dementia club
Bexhill MP Greg Barker found out more about local dementia services for under-65s when he joined members of the See Haven Club in London Road for tea and a chat.

The club, which is run by the Alzheimer’s Society, specifically caters for those with a diagnosis of early onset dementia (aged under 65) and meets every Tuesday.
The Alzheimer’s Society recognises that the needs of those living with early onset dementia can be significantly different, which is why the See Haven Club is commissioned to provide this service.
Mr Barker said he really enjoyed his visit and said the local club provides a welcoming and friendly environment where people can take part in as much or as little as they want.
He said: “Activities at the club are varied and person centred and includes trips to local places of interest.
“All club members also keep a diary in which to record their activities at the club.
“This useful aide memoir helps carers to have an insight of the day and to also share important information with keyworkers.”
During his visit, Greg chatted to club members about their interests and reminisced with them using some reminiscence materials.
He said: “Keeping up a social life when you are diagnosed with dementia can be really hard as people are not always sure how to respond to you if you can’t remember facts and faces or find the right words to express yourself.
“I have learnt that dementia affects everyone differently but what is so important is not to feel isolated.
“The See Haven Club is a wonderful place to meet and chat with people who understand the challenges you face”.
As well as supporting people diagnosed with early onset dementia, the club offers valuable respite and advice for their carers.
